STUFF YOUR TROPHY, SAY THE FANS
LEAGUE TWO THIS WEEKEND
HEROES OF THE WEEK
Grimsby Town fans. Supporters have a voice and should be listened to. They are angry at the way the format of the Checkatrade Trophy has been changed, bringing in under-21 sides from the Premier League and Championship. They have a tie against Doncaster Rovers a week tomorrow but Grimsby fans will host a protest match against supporters of the League One side on the same night. It shows fans still have a mind of their own and won’t be taken for granted.
ZERO OF THE WEEK
Yeovil Town. From 3-1 up they went on to lose 4-3 at Forest Green. You would have thought they would have learned their lesson when they went 1-0 up at Luton on the opening day of the season only to lose 8-2! And that makes 14 goals conceded, the most of any club in England’s top four divisions.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
Donal McDermott (Swindon). What a way to send your club top of the table. The 27-year-old cut inside from the left before curling a left-footed effort into the far corner of the Morecambe goal.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Michael Flynn, Newport County manager, after the 1-0 win over high-flying Coventry, and the birth of his son, Samuel: ‘It’s been a lovely week and that win was for my wife and my new boy Samuel and I’d like to thank the players for putting in the performance that they did and keeping that smile on my face.’
STAT OF THE WEEK
Zero. And a big fat one too. Harry Kewell’s Crawley are yet to register a single league point after losing their third game 1-0 at home to Cambridge. Tipped to be relegated and it isn’t looking good even at this very early stage.
