Fly-tipper caught on camera is jailed for 6 months

- Daily Mail Reporter

HEaVInG furniture and binbags full of rubbish out of his van into a picturesque country lane, fly-tipper Jamie Humpage clearly thinks he’s got away with it.

what the dopey dumper didn’t realise was that he had parked his van right in front of a CCtV camera.

the 28-year-old has now been jailed for six months after footage of him chucking a mattress, a fridge and a wardrobe into the lane was shown in court.

He was convicted of eight separate fly-tipping offences around the west Midlands.

sentencing him at Dudley magistrates’ court, District Judge Graham wilkinson said: ‘ these offences are so serious I’m going to give Mr Humpage a custodial sentence and ban him from driving.

‘Fly-tipping is a blight on our environment and a clear message must be sent to other people warning them that fly-tipping for commercial gain will not be tolerated.’

In the video, Humpage can be seen stopping his unlicensed Ford transit van right in front of the CCtV camera in Back Lane, aldridge, where a colleague begins throwing stuff out.

Humpage then opens the back doors to help, chucking the contents of the van into the middle of the lane.

out and leave it in the lane before driving off with the back doors of the van still wide open.

Humpage, of Blakenall, walsall, pleaded guilty to all eight offences under the Environmental Protection act 1990. the trial heard that the first offence took place in Cop- pice Lane, Brownhills, and the other seven in Back Lane.

Last night, local councillor Ian shires said: ‘It’s good news that this man will go to prison.

‘It sends out a strong message to other would-be fly-tippers.

‘If you’re one of those people paying men like this to do house clearances on the cheap, think again and stop.

‘the photographic evidence used in court shows where your out-ofsight, out-of-mind rubbish ends up – slap bang in some of our most loved beauty spots.

‘You have a responsibility to dispose of it properly.

‘If you don’t and we trace evidence back to you, you will find yourself in court, too.’
