In 1994, a surgeon recommende­d that Mr C have his foot amputated owing to serious, potentiall­y life-threatenin­g gangrene. Politely and firmly, Mr C declined the operation. The drama TEST CASE: MR C (RADIO 4, 2.15PM) follows the true- life ethical arguments that this case triggered.

LAST month, JAMIE CULLUM (RADIO 2, 7PM) and Norah Jones (pictured) were both performing at a jazz gig in Stuttgart and spent some time backstage talking about their parallel careers. They were both signed to major labels in the same year and released their debut albums within a few days of each other. In a recording of their

conversati­on, they recall artists who have influenced their work and pick favourite jazz tracks, while Norah shares memories of working with Jude Law and Natalie Portman on the 2007 film My Blueberry Nights.

MEDICAL tests are becoming more efficient and can now discover traces of diseases that may never become manifest. Margaret McCartney asks if we have TOO MUCH MEDICINE?
