Castle flying the flag for Wales

- CARA SLOMAN

CEIRION JONES and Jamie Quinlan are flying the Wales flag as they aim to send Morlais Castle back to the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes. The Merthyr Tydfil club reached the finals in 2006 when they were beaten in the last eight. Now this duo are a win away from returning after knocking out Rolls of Monmouth’s Ian Stitt and Stuart Davies at home with a par on the first extra hole. In the play-off Jones sunk the pressure putt for a par, whereas Rolls missed theirs. Jones said: ‘It was one of those games where it was disappointing that someone had to lose. We never expected to get to the last 32. It would be fabulous to represent Wales in the final.’ Victory in the next round at Coed-y-Mwstwr would book Morlais Castle a place in this year’s showpiece event at Marriott St Pierre in October.
