Corbyn’s ally slammed over tweet telling abuse victims: Shut up for diversity’s sake

ONE of Jeremy Corbyn’s allies was condemned last night for sharing a social media message which told abused girls to shut up ‘for the good of diversity’.

Naz Shah retweeted and liked a post on Twitter which said sex abuse victims in Rotherham need to ‘shut their mouths’.

It comes just days after her fellow Labour MP Sarah Champion was forced to resign from the party’s frontbench for writing an article which said the country had a ‘problem’ with British Pakistanis grooming girls. Miss Shah orchestrated the campaign against The Sun – which published the article – and described Miss Champion’s words as ‘irresponsible’.

Miss Shah’s office claimed she had retweeted the comment by accident, but her actions were condemned by Rebecca Hilsenrath, the chief executive of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, who last week led criticism of Mr Corbyn’s decision to force Miss Champion out.

She said: ‘Miss Shah should know better. We need to keep the victims of these horrific crimes at the heart of the debate, and always remem- ber that diversity is not served by silence.’ The gaffe comes a year after Miss Shah, the MP for Bradford West, was suspended by Labour for anti-semitic online posts.

In one, she shared rants on Facebook calling for Israel to be uprooted and sent to America. She also likened Israel policies to those of Hitler and wrote: ‘The Jews are rallying.’

The Rotherham post she retweeted was from an account parodying Left-wing journalist Owen Jones. It read: ‘Those abused girls in Rotherham and elsewhere just need to shut their mouths. For the good of diversity.’
