BRITAIN’S GREATEST FEMALE JOCKEY

-

ULYSSES edged out Barney Roy in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown and he can beat that rival again in a red-hot Juddmonte International Stakes. Since the Eclipse, Ulysses has finished second to brilliant Enable in the King George at a rain-soaked Ascot. The quicker ground on the Knavesmire will suit my selection better and champion jockey Jim Crowley now has more experience on how to ride a colt who has to be played late in his races. Runners at York tend to race up the middle of the track. That should help Crowley, giving him more options delivering Ulysses off a hold-up ride. Typically, for a Sir Michael Stoute-trained contender, Ulysses is improving with racing and I think MIRAGE

DANCER will too after placed efforts at Chester and Royal Ascot. He is my pick for the Great Voltigeur Stakes, where bookmakers have got Cracksman too short in the betting. He has been placed in two Derbys — at Epsom and the Curragh — but might be done for speed here.

EDWARD LEWIS is at his best in a large field like the one in the Symphony Group Handicap. Significantly, he is the pick of top jockey Danny Tudhope from the four entries of his boss, trainer David O’Meara. For more from Hayley on the Matchbook Betting Podcast listen at podcast.matchbook.com
