Moment Iris, 2, gatecrashed the TV news

- By Tammy Hughes Showbusiness Reporter

IT had been a tough lunchtime bulletin wrestling with trials, politics and terrorism.

But for the final item, it was about to get a whole lot tougher for newsreader Alastair Stewart – as he had to contend with mischievous two-year-old Iris.

The little girl managed to wreak havoc yesterday on the ITV Lunchtime News. While her mother Lucy Wronka spoke about milk allergies in her own children, Iris was determined to steal the spotlight.

After wriggling off mum’s lap, the lively youngster clambered onto the journalist’s desk, while her older brother, George, four, sat still in his chair obediently. Iris’s explorations continued, and by the time Mr Stewart signed off – while barely suppressing a laugh – she had crawled in front of him.

The toddler’s antics delighted viewers and the newsreader, who gave her a high five as the credits rolled.

Yesterday her mother described Iris as ‘a very independent toddler, who does exactly what she wants to do’.

Mrs Wronka, 36, added: ‘It was about that time in the day when Iris is usually napping. She was in a green screen room with lots of TV cameras pointing at her. It was all very exciting.’
