Stop trolling us plead McCanns
THE parents of Madeleine McCann have urged online abusers to stop plaguing them with ‘awful and upsetting’ daily abuse.
Kate and Gerry McCann’s daughter vanished aged three during a family holiday to Portugal in May 2007. The couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, get around 150 abusive social media messages every day, some blaming them for Madeleine’s disappearance or falsely accusing them of involvement. Mrs McCann, pictured, said it is ‘shocking and hard to get your head round’.
The couple are now proposing new rules to help curb the internet abuse on the official Find Madeleine Campaign website. It promotes positive, helpful comments and is trying to ban trolling.
The McCanns are waiting to find out if the £12million British police inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance will be extended with a cash boost in October.
