Wagner has a fright, but Town prevail

HUDDERSFIELD manager David Wagner claimed he could ask for no more after his team narrowly avoided a Carabao Cup shock.

Rotherham, 57 places further down the football pyramid, dominated the Yorkshire derby but two goals in as many second-half minutes maintained Town’s 100 per cent start.

Huddersfield trailed for 51 minutes but drew level through substitute Philip Billing’s penalty before Joe Lolley ensured safe passage into round three with a low finish.

‘We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but it was about getting into the next round and so I am happy,’ said Wagner.

Rotherham went ahead when Anthony Forde’s inviting cross from the left sucked in keeper Joel Coleman and centre back Semi Ajayi headed over him.

‘Apart from that wobble at the start of the second half I thought we were the better team,’ said Rotherham boss Paul Warne.
