Jurgen: Now it will be easier to sign players

- JACK GAUGHAN

JURGEN KLOPP criticised Liverpool’s contract rebels after a sparkling night in the Champions League.

The German insisted attracting new stars to Anfield will become far easier after his side qualified for the group stage of Europe’s premier competition by beating Hoffenheim.

But Klopp is puzzled by those already at the club who allow the Champions League to dictate their futures, although he did not name individuals. Philippe Coutinho wants a move to Barcelona and Emre Can, who scored twice in the 4-2 win last night, is out of contract next summer.

‘It’s a big influence on the transfer market,’ Klopp said. ‘Players we talk to say, “If you play Champions League, we would be really interested”.

‘Even if you try to extend a contract with a player in the squad. I always think, “It’s up to you to help us get there, don’t expect us to get there and then you join us”. We are meant to do this together, and that’s what we did tonight.’

Liverpool were 3-0 up inside 21 minutes and Klopp added: ‘The start was like a thunderstorm. A big compliment to my team who played a perfect half an hour.

‘It’s so exciting to be part of it. I love it. We’ll have a few fantastic nights at Anfield.’
