Father held after four children hurt in pub crash

- By Chris Brooke

A FATHER has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after four young children were badly injured when he crashed a car into a pub late at night.

The 29-year-old drove 22 miles north after telling their mother he was picking them up ‘to take them out for an hour’.

Sheryl Rogers, 2 , reported them missing to police on Tuesday afternoon and put desperate pleas on social media.

During that night officers turned up at her home in Hythe, near Southampton, to reveal that the children had been hurt in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, when a car hit the front wall of the Travellers’ Inn pub.

The arrested man, who has not been named by police but is believed to be Owen Scott, is said to be the father of the youngest three of the four children.

The youngsters are two girls aged eight and seven and boys aged 21 months and nine months. He is estranged from Miss Rogers.

Police said all four children were in ‘serious conditions’ in hospital and according to a relative they are in intensive care. The man is in hospital in a stable condition.
