Girl, 13, killed herself after a tiff with mum

- By Claire Duffin

A 13-YEAR- OLD girl hanged herself after a minor argument with her mother during the school half-term.

Chole Morris – described as a ‘brilliant role model’ by teachers – had been sent to her bedroom following the disagreement, an inquest heard.

The row broke out after her brother messed up the arts and crafts she was working on and Chole was then told to go upstairs by her mother Alison Alford.

Later her step-father Anthony Morris went to check on her but found the schoolgirl hanging. He performed CPR until paramedics arrived but they were unable to save her.

A report by medical expert Dr Saras Hosdurga said Chole had not shown any signs of mental health problems before the tragedy on May 30 in Bristol.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Brain told the hearing that the teenager’s motivation was ‘unclear’.

After her death there were rumours circulating on social media that she had been bullied. But her school, Bridge Learning Campus in Hartcliffe, Bristol, said there was no evidence of this. Chole, who was in the cookery club, was described as a popular girl and a ‘wonderful friend’.

Paying tribute in a newsletter, headmistress Keziah Featherstone said Chole was a ‘brilliant role model’. She wrote: ‘ She was a very popular girl with close friends and was an excellent student making great progress.

time, she won awards and was always with her friends, happy and laughing. I shall miss her a great deal.’

At the time of her death, assistant head Nerys Blower said: ‘She enjoyed cooking and had really grown in confidence.

‘Chole was always friendly and kind to all the other students at the club.’

At the inquest this week, Maria Voisin, senior coroner for Avon, recorded a narrative conclusion. She said: ‘Chole died as a consequence of her own actions but her intentions are unknown.’
