Heartless 4x4 driver who parked on graves

- Daily Mail Reporter

THE driver of a £50,000 Land Rover left cemetery visitors disgusted after parking over a row of graves.

The vehicle was left on top of four plots while the owner apparently attended a funeral.

The motorist was later asked by cemetery staff to remove the Land Rover Discovery. The driver did so and apologised.

Ashley Griffith, 24, was walking through the cemetery in Loughborough, Leicestershire, to visit family when he saw the offending 4x4. The supermarket worker said: ‘At first I saw that there was a funeral taking place, and then I spotted the car parked across the graves.

‘I thought it was completely disgusting. I could hardly believe it. I have no idea who the buried people are or if their families know what has happened. But there were definitely flowers on at least one of the graves that looked like they had only just been put there.

‘I know if it was my relatives’ graves that had been parked on I would be completely outraged. I did not approach the funeral party to ask if they knew whose car it was because I wanted to leave them to grieve. But the total lack of respect shown is hornfying. 'Other passers-by reported it. and we all agreed the lack of thought was disturbing.' The cemetery has a small car park but it was reported that there were spaces at the time. The land is owned by Chamwood Borough Council and a spokesman said there were not any 'enforcea-ble parking restnctlons' as there had never been any need. The spokesman added: 'We ask that all visitors to the cemetery park in a respectful way and we would like to take this opportu-nity to remind people of this. Parking on graves is completely unacceptable and disrespectful. A member of staff did speak to the vehicle owner, they moved the vehicle and apologised. The mat-ter is therefore closed.'
