THE WAR ON DRUGS: A Deeper Understanding (Atlantic)
THE fourth War On Drugs album plunges deeper into the drive-time radio styles that fuelled 2014’s Lost In The Dream. Adam Granduciel’s Dylanesque drawl adds gravitas to lovesick power ballads and heartland rockers that are superbly underpinned by the Philly sextet’s tape-loops and hazy synths. Imagine Don Henley’s Boys Of Summer with extended solos and you’re there. There’s even some Born To Run-style glockenspiel. ★★★★✩
