Circle of life

THE date of Princess Diana’s death is one my family will never forget because it was the day my granddaughter was born.

Emma came into the world at 5.29am, just as the official announcement was made. Friends and family were pleased when I phoned with our news, but there was a cloud hanging over everyone.

Out of respect, we celebrated Emma’s first birthday a day late and felt guilty when we celebrated future birthdays on her birth date. When she was six, Emma said: ‘Mummy, isn’t it time that poor lady was allowed to rest in peace!’
