28 killed in rape case riots

AT least 28 people have died in riots that broke out after the guru of an Indian sect was convicted of raping two of his followers.

Mobs rampaged through the north Indian town of Panchkula after the guilty verdict was handed down yesterday in the 15year-old case against the leader, who calls himself Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

The man, who heads the Dera Sacha Sauda sect, will be sentenced on Monday.
