The cycle of life... Olympic golden couple’s little star

- By Tim Lamden

WITH ten Olympic gold medals between them, they’re used to having something to celebrate.

And this week was no different for cyclists Laura and Jason Kenny – after the birth of their first child.

Mrs Kenny announced the arrival of son Albert Louie Kenny on photo-sharing website Instagram yesterday with a picture of her and her husband with their baby and dogs Sprolo and Pringle.

She said Albert had been born late on Wednesday, a week after his due date. In her post to Instagram, Mrs Kenny wrote: ‘Welcome to the world little Albert Louie Kenny. 23/08/17 8lb 12.5oz 22.44. You kept us waiting a week but it was all worth it.’

Mrs Kenny, 25, became Britain’s most successful female Olympian a year ago when she won omnium and team pursuit titles for the second time in Rio.

The following month she married fellow cycling champion Kenny, 29, and in February the pair announced they were expecting a baby in a social-media post showing two adult bikes and a small child’s bike.

Mrs Kenny has already hinted that their child could follow them into the veledrome. During the Rio Olympics she wrote on Twitter: ‘I love him to bits @ JasonKenny107!

‘Our kids have to get some of these genes right?’

The couple met in 2011, but Mrs Kenny – then Laura Trott – admitted that their romance did not blossom until just before the London Olympics in 2012. Following his Rio victory, Kenny admitted: ‘The best thing about it is that we get to come away together and race together.

‘Not many couples in the Olympic village can enjoy their success together. So that’s really special and I feel really lucky about that.’

Kenny has won six Olympic gold medals and his wife four. To add to their medal haul, both have been honoured by the Queen. Mrs Kenny was made an OBE in 2013 and both received CBEs this year.
