Oh, Dr Foster! Suranne shows her sultry side
WE are used to seeing her as a grave-faced GP pushed to the brink of madness by her husband’s affair in gritty BBC drama Doctor Foster.
But there was nothing sombre about Suranne Jones’s appearance as she posed for a string of sultry pictures to mark her return to our screens in the show’s second series next week.
The 9-year-old star looked glamorous in a mini-dress and red high heels, with an on-trend short haircut, in one of the photos released on the weekend – while in another she laughs as she flashes the top of her stockings from under a trench coat.
Since the first series in 2015, Miss Jones, who won the TV Bafta for best actress, has had a son, born in March last year, and lost her mother in December after a long illness. In an interview beside the photos in The Times Magazine on Saturday, Miss Jones said both had a huge impact on her.
‘Becoming a mother and then losing your mother... they both change you profoundly and you have to give yourself time to understand what’s happened with that,’ she said. Miss Jones, who is married to magazine editor Laurence Akers, also said the reality of motherhood was a shock, exclaiming: ‘The sheer exhaustion of it!’
Filming began a few months after her son’s birth, and she said at one point she had to bring him to the set because he was ‘really quite ill’.
The new series of Doctor Foster, set two years after the original storyline, starts on Tuesday, September 5, at 9pm on BBC1.
