Customers in a tizz over Lidl fizz

-

THOUSANDS of bargain- hunters queueing for £3.33-a-bottle prosecco were fizzing with anger after many of its stores sold out in minutes.

The two-day deal at Lidl saw shoppers heading to the supermarket at dawn over the weekend.

The supermarket was offering six bottles of Allini prosecco for £20, or just £3.33 a bottle. It usually costs £5.7 a bottle.

One Twitter user posted a picture of a queue at the Grimsby store at 7.50am on Saturday adding that its stock had run out 12 minutes later. Others showed long lines trailing through car parks in Cardiff, Stowmarket in Suffolk and South Shields in Tyne and Wear. One angry customer wrote: ‘Couldn’t be more fuming that I sacrificed my Saturday sleep-in for Lidl prosecco and they’ve sold out by 8.07am.’ Another added: ‘My weekend is ruined.’

A Lidl spokesman said: ‘We have, experienced unprecedented demand and sincerely apologise to anyone that hasn’t been able to take advantage of the offer on this occasion.’
