Schumacher son’s tribute

- JONATHAN McEVOY

THERE was a familiar look to the teenager with the famous name. The latest racing Schumacher, Mick, 18, drove a lap before yesterday’s Grand Prix in honour of his father Michael, who took the first of his 91 career victories in Belgium 25 years ago. Nothing is seen or heard of Michael, 48, since he suffered brain damage in a skiing accident three years ago. Mick, who competes in European Formula Three, drove the Benetton in which his father won his maiden world title in 1994. ‘It was emotional,’ said Mick after his exhibition drive. ‘Spa holds so many memories of my father.’ The Schumacher name is synonymous with Spa, where Michael won an unmatched six times. So it was fitting that Lewis Hamilton equalled the German’s 68 career poles here on Saturday.
