THE ICC introduced the points-based demerit system last year in an attempt to deter or punish repeat offenders. If a player accrues four points in the space of two years he or she will be suspended for one Test or two ODIs or T20s — whichever matches are next on the schedule. Most instances of obscene language and dissent are sanctioned with one or two points.
