IS ANGELINA JOLIE in mourning for her marriage or for her impending divorce?

Jolie, who looked positively funereal when she stepped out in Los Angeles in a floor-length tunic (right), is said to be having second thoughts about her split from Brad Pitt, after his promise to stop drinking (his ‘drunken rage’ at their son, Maddox, now 16, was reportedly a key cause of the separation).

She took time out from her marital woes on Sunday to spend time with daughters Shiloh, 11, and Vivienne, nine, treating the girls and their pals to lunch and ice cream. The actress, 42, is also mother to Vivienne’s twin brother Knox, nine, as well as Pax, 13, and Zahara, 12.

The ‘fat cat’ salaries of academy school chiefs are generating much discussion, with scores of them enjoying pay packets dwarfing the Prime Minister’s £150,000. One beneficiary is Julian Drinkall, chief executive of the Academies enterprise Trust, who trousered £240,000 last year. Doubtless the Foreign Secretary, his fellow Old etonian Boris Johnson, will put in a good word for him. At Oxford, I can disclose, Drinkall was one of Johnson’s chums in the Bullingdon. Not, perhaps, an entirely academic point.
