Nadiya’s in a pickle... over Cornish pasties
HER pastry skills helped her win the 2015 Bake Off crown.
But Nadiya Hussain has upset pasty connoisseurs in Cornwall with her take on the recipe.
The 32-year-old, right, was criticised by a Cornish bakery for using peas in pasties made on Monday’s episode of her BBC2 show Nadiya’s British Food Adventure. Portreath Bakery, which runs three bakeries in Redruth, wrote on Twitter: ‘Awful take on a Cornish pasty Nadiya Hussain, should never be allowed. Have you ever eaten a true Cornish pasty? NO PEAS!’
In response, Miss Hussain tweeted: ‘The pasty was my take on the classic. It’s about being diverse and doing something a little bit different.
‘Perhaps you should eat one of those pasties, raise your sugar levels and jog over to the 21st century.’
Cornish pasties have a protected status, and under this the recipe includes pastry, beef, onion, potato and swede, with some pepper.
