Heatwave to be doused by rain
AFTER the hottest August bank holiday on record, we can all guess what’s coming next.
Cool temperatures and downpours are set to sweep the UK, bringing an abrupt end to sweltering heat and blue skies.
A new high of 28.2C (82.8F) was recorded in Holbeach, Lincholnshire, on Monday but the mercury is predicted to drop to the mid-teens over the next few days, and there could even be a touch of frost in the North.
Met Office senior forecaster Marco Petagna said: ‘There is no sign of any prolonged period of hot weather. There will be scattered showers and it will feel quite breezy – there is even scope for a little bit of frost later in the week.’
He said it would be ‘much cooler’ in the South West, Wales and the Midlands with scattered rainfall. Temperatures might reach only 15C (59F) further north but it will be warmer in the South East by the weekend.
