Let there be light
ADMIRING the chandeliers in St Mary Magdalene in Newark, I asked a church warden how they changed the light bulbs. He told me that for years the verger had used a pole to lift down the chandeliers, a simple approach that worked well and there had never been an incident.
Then along came Health and Safety, insisting the church employ electricians. Now, a firm using mobile scaffolding charges £3,000 to replace the light bulbs.
