MRS PERKINS’ PLAY

-

Mrs Perkins loved to read, She also liked to write. To solve Miss Christie’s mysteries Would give her much delight. The books of Rendall, James and Tey Provided many a thrill, While Wentworth, Sayers and Allingham Gave certain joy until One day she thought: ‘Perhaps I could ‘Write my own mystery play.’ And so she set about the task At once without delay. ‘I’ll have some shady characters, ‘All could have done the deed. ‘A country house, a secret room, ‘Some poison I will need.’ So Mrs Perkins wrote her play With all the skill she’d got, Although at times she wondered if She might have lost the plot. And now, at last, the play is done, The work of her maturity. It’s in a drawer, till some kind soul Will save it from obscurity.
