BJORN AGAIN... ZVEREV GOES FOR BORG LOOK
GERMANY’S Alexander Zverev turned back the clock to the 1970s in an outfit reminiscent of Bjorn Borg (right) but looked out of sorts as he beat Darian King of Barbados 7-6, 7-5, 6-4 at the US Open. Wearing a retro striped shirt, headband and knee socks designed by R&B star Pharrell Williams, Zverev’s usual booming serve lacked punch against the Barbadian. Zverev, 20, with five titles already this year, committed 31 unforced errors in a first set lasting 1hr 21 min. Clearly relieved after a match that lasted almost three hours, he said: ‘It was an entertaining first set. Darian came out playing really good tennis and I couldn’t find my rhythm.’ He now faces 20-year-old Borna Coric of Croatia.
