Proctor’s legal threat to child sex abuse probe
A FORMER MP last night threatened to bring a High Court challenge against the child sex abuse inquiry if it gives his ‘fantasist’ accuser special legal status.
Harvey Proctor said he would seek a costly judicial review if the inquiry hears evidence from the anonymous man known only as ‘Nick’ regarding the so-called Westminster VIP sex ring scandal.
The former politician said it would be wrong to make the suspected fantasist a ‘core participant’ – which would allow him to apply for legal costs – when he is under police investigation. He said that granting Nick privileged access will encourage some to ‘accuse anyone from public life in the last half century’.
His comments came as the Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse announced the terms of its work into the scandal.
The inquiry tasked Northumbria Police with investigating the allegations Nick invented his lurid claims. But Mr Proctor, who has been left destitute as a result of the claims and is suing Nick, said the inquiry must not take evidence from ‘fantasists’.
