Malan and Stoneman get backing

- LAWRENCE BOOTH

TREVOR BAYLISS has backed Mark Stoneman and Dawid Malan to seal their Ashes places during next week’s deciding Test against West Indies at Lord’s. Both hit half-centuries during England’s shock defeat in the second Test at Headingley, but the jury is out on Tom Westley. ‘Mark looks like a tough type of player,’ said Bayliss, who has named the same squad for the Lord’s Test. ‘Dawid has a couple of 60s now, and he was starting to look more comfortable in the second Test. This last Test will be another opportunity for them to really nail it down.’ The England coach admitted the selection of Hampshire leg-spinner Mason Crane would be a ‘temptation’, but said it depends on the pitch. England’s fast-bowling coach Ottis Gibson will leave at the end of the series to take on the head coach’s role with South Africa, as MailOnline first revealed.
