Mum killed herself after row over TV boxing match

- By Liz Hull

A MOTHER of two killed herself in a ‘moment of madness’ after a row with her husband when he kept her awake watching a boxing match on television.

Former travel company boss Felicity Hyde, 38, had agreed for Chris, 46, to invite friends round to watch Anthony Joshua fight Wladimir Klitschko for the world heavyweight title in April.

She went to bed after the fight started but later berated Mr Hyde and his friends for keeping her up.

The following day, she and Mr Hyde, a recruitment consultant, had an argument in which she said she wanted a ‘massive settlement’ if they were to divorce.

The next day she hanged herself in their family home in Blackpool while he and the children were out.

An inquest in the resort heard that Mrs Hyde had no history of mental illness, but had threatened to kill herself previously.

Recalling the argument, Mr Hyde said: ‘We weren’t having divorce discussions, it was something that she had just said. I thought that we were happy.

‘There was nothing at all that could have indicated that she was going to kill herself or self-harm ... A little bit of me can’t believe she meant to do it – it was a moment of madness.’

The court heard that the tragedy occurred after Mr Hyde and his friends watched the bout on April 29.

‘She came downstairs and went mad at my friends and saying that she wanted to sleep and that they were disrespecting her house,’ he said. ‘We did have a discussion the following day but not until the evening. I said to her, I think at my Felicity Hyde with husband Chris age I shouldn’t have to put up with this behaviour, you need to change. But she said if you want to divorce me I want a massive settlement.’

A day later, on May 1, the couple, who were building a children’s play area in their back garden, agreed to work together to get it finished.

But Mr Hyde said: ‘Fee said to me, “I’m going to kill myself”. I pointed at the children who were playing in the garden and said “how can you do such a thing?” ’

He went out to a rubbish dump with their children at 11am and discovered his wife dead in the garage when they got back.

‘She had no history of mental health issues at all,’ Mr Hyde said.

‘There were a couple of occasions that she did say “I will kill myself” but it was never anything real.

‘Everyone was enormously surprised by this.’

A post-mortem examination confirmed Mrs Hyde had not drank alcohol or taken any drugs in the run-up to her death.

Her GP also confirmed she had no history of mental illness or depression and had not made any known attempts to end her life.

Blackpool Coroner Alan Wilson recorded a conclusion of suicide.
