No love for Judi

Renowned as the supreme character actress rather than the romantic lead, dame Judi dench says she regrets not having had more on-screen kisses.

The 82-year- old, who plays Queen Victoria during a period when she becomes enamoured with a young Indian servant in new film Victoria & Abdul, sighs: ‘ I’ve not kissed many people on screen. I think I’ve missed out. Maybe I still have one to come!’

Shades of her 1980s television sitcom hit A Fine Romance (in which she starred opposite her late husband, actor Michael williams), where dame Judi also sang the theme tune with the lines: ‘A fine romance, with no kisses . . .’
