To see or not to see: Just 160 seats for Hiddleston’s Hamlet
FIRST it was Sherlock, and now it’s The Night Manager.
Tom Hiddleston made his debut as Hamlet in Kenneth Branagh’s production of the Shakespeare tragedy at Rada last night.
Hiddleston, 36, took to the stage in front of just 160 lucky fans at Rada’s Jerwood Vanbrugh theatre in London. Tickets for the 21 performances were allocated via a ballot system which is now closed, meaning only 3,360 people will see Hiddleston play Hamlet for the first time in his career.
In 2015, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch took on the role for 12 weeks at the Barbican in London. Tickets to all of his performances sold out within minutes of them going on sale.
Cumberbatch’s performance has subsequently been seen by more than 750,000 worldwide via cinema screenings.
