A hanging offence? Dozy plant thief swipes baskets right in front of CCTV

- Daily Mail Reporter

WELL, this certainly looks like a job for Special Branch...

Homeowner David Bellamy was left baffled after this brazen thief took two hanging baskets from his house – right in front of a CCTV camera.

The footage shows a man in a grey tracksuit approach the detached home, grab the baskets on either side of the door and then make a run for it.

As he legs it into nearby woods, still carrying a basket in each hand, his tracksuit bottoms slip down his legs.

The video of the incident in Telford, Shropshire, has been watched almost a million times on Mr Bellamy’s Facebook page. The 48-year-old quality manager said: ‘I think the fact that you can see his trousers starting to fall off as he runs away is what’s helped to make it so successful online.

‘I can’t get my head around it. Of all the things you could take, why on earth would you steal hanging baskets?

‘Those baskets weren’t expensive – they’re effectively worthless as they don’t have any sentimental value to me, so it’s not the greatest loss.’

A West Mercia Police spokesman said it was investigating the theft, which took place at 2pm last Tuesday.
