CARE CRISIS

Britain’s biggest care home provider could be plunged into crisis by a row with lenders over debts.

Four Seasons Health Care has gone to the High Court to overturn securities it says were granted to bond holders mistakenly.

The mix-up could derail efforts to rein in the company’s £540m debt pile because bosses want to offer the securities to lenders instead as part of a vital restructuring deal.

BONUS BATTLE

Shareholders are urging embattled construction group Carillion to claw back bonuses from the bosses who oversaw its fall into crisis.

They want the company to recoup millions of pounds handed to former chief executive Richard Howson and former finance chief Richard Adam.

FOOD FIGHT

British staff at fast food chain McDonald’s are to go on strike for the first time today over wages and conditions. Workers in Crayford, south east London, and in Cambridge, are expected to walk out over a row about zero-hour contracts and union recognition. They are demanding a minimum wage of £10 per hour and guaranteed hours per week.

BANK BOSS

Sir Dave Ramsden, the new deputy governor of the Bank of England, is due to start work today.

The 53-year-old was previously chief economic adviser at the Treasury and will be tasked with keeping an eye on the banking sector while at Threadneedle Street.

PENSION COSTS

Academics face big rises in their pension contributions due to a surge in retirement costs, the Universities Superannuation Scheme has warned. The scheme, which is the largest private sector pension fund in the UK, has told universities and its 350,000 members that payments may need to rise from the current 26pc of pay to between 32pc and 33pc.
