Rory prays for season to be over
RORY McILROY admitted he cannot wait for the season to end after missing the cut by a stroke at the Dell Championship in Boston.
The former world No 1 and four- time major winner has slumped to 50 in the FedEx Cup ratings, which puts him a long way from qualifying for the Tour Championships. He needs to be in the top 30.
‘ I’m sort of waiting for the season to end and that’s reflected in the way I’m playing,’ said the Northern Irishman, 28.
McIlroy, who started on the 10th, finished with a doublebogey six for a four-over total of 74. He has been struggling with a rib injury but still believes he can defend the FedEx Cup. He is attempting to become only the second player — after Tiger Woods — to win the title twice.
McIlroy added: ‘When you are missing both ways with your driver, it’s never good. And I also made a bogey with a wedge in my hand at the first, which is sloppy.’
