OLIVER TOWNEND claimed the second Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials title of his career as British riders filled the top four places. The Shropshire-based Yorkshireman became the first British winner at Burghley since 2011 as he guided Ballaghmor Class to victory. Despite having one fence down and collecting a time fault, Townend, 34, edged out Piggy French and Vanir Kamira after they jumped clear. French finished 1.3 penalties behind on 46.9. Gemma Tattersall was third on Arctic Soul, and Tom McEwen fourth with Toledo De Kerser.
