Labour trench warfare threat
LABOUR will wage ‘gruelling trench warfare’ against Brexit legislation, Lord Mandelson warned yesterday.
The party grandee – a former EU commissioner – said that ministers would face a parliamentary ‘minefield’ as they try to push the Great Repeal Bill through the Commons and the Lords.
The legislation to transfer thousands of EU regulations into British law will begin its passage through Parliament on Thursday.
But Lord Mandelson said Labour would mount a push to bring down the legislation in an effort to ‘force them to change course’ on Brexit.
Tory rebel Anna Soubry denied pro-Remain Conservatives were plotting to join forces with Labour to kill off the legislation immediately.
