Migraines? How putting on weight might help!
BEING over or underweight can raise the risk of migraines, say researchers from Johns Hopkins University in the U.S.
They found that obese people, with a BMI above 30, were 27 per cent more likely to have migraines than those of normal weight, while those who were underweight (a BMI below 18.5) were 13 per cent more likely to have migraines. The findings were based on 12 studies involving 289,000 people with migraines.
The report, published in the journal Neurology, suggests fat tissue may release molecules that trigger migraines, and changes in activity that can influence weight may also be implicated.
