THOUGH steeped in the tradition of melodrama, the first series of Mike Bartlett’s gripping, multi-awardwinning drama painted an unusually realistic portrayal of the devastating damage that can be wrought by infidelity — something that is often glibly glossed over for the sake of entertainment. As the highly anticipated second series begins, Gemma Foster (the terrific Suranne Jones, pictured) finds wounds reopened when her ex, Simon (Bertie Carvel), returns to the area with his former mistress, now his wife (Jodie Comer), and their baby daughter. What follows promises to be even more deliciously dark and vengeance-filled than before.
