Caspian Prince set for US raid

- By MARCUS TOWNEND Racing Correspondent

Trainer Tony Coyle is plotting a fairytale challenge at the Breeders’ Cup in California in november for his small north Yorkshire stable.

Coyle’s Caspian Prince will secure a ‘win-and-you’re-in’ berth in the $1million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint if he lands the Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

But even if the gelding misses out this weekend, Coyle (right) says owner Stephen Louch is determined to take the eightyearold, who is in the form of his life, to america. Former jump jockey Coyle, who trains 27 horses at his Malton stable, said: ‘He is a freak. He looks like a selling plater but is the best horse we have ever had. He must be one of the fastest in Britain. ‘The owner is mad keen to go for the Breeders’ Cup. if he won on Sunday he’d go straight there. ‘We didn’t enter him in the Prix de L’abbaye (on arc day at Chantilly) to save him for america.’

Caspian Prince, who has run in 73 races winning 17, landed the investec Dash on Derby Day on epsom’s downhill five furlongs for the third time.

Last time out he beat subsequent nunthorpe Stakes winner Marsha in the Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh.

aidan O’Brien’s Caravaggio looks like being one of Caspian Prince’s main rivals.

Clive Cox-trained July Cup winner Harry angel is 7- 4 favourite for the 32red Sprint Cup at Haydock on Saturday.
