Golfer Lewis gives winnings to Houston’s flood victims

-

AMERICAN golfer Stacy Lewis has donated her £150,000 prize to the flood victims in Houston after winning the Cambia Portland Classic — her first LPGA Tour title since 2014. Lewis, 32, and her husband — University of Houston women’s golf coach Gerrod Chadwell — have a house in the city and before the Oregon tournament she pledged her winnings to those hit by Hurricane Harvey. She admitted the final day was tough. ‘You’ve got to get a lot of things go your way,’ she said. ‘We’re going to be able to help (people) rebuild houses and get their homes back. That’s more important than anything.’ The former world No 1 said her 12th Tour triumph was one of the most important and praised her husband. ‘I was fine until he showed up, then I started crying,’ she said. ‘The last three years have been hard.’

TeaM sky’s elia Viviani was awarded the win on stage two of the Tour of Britain after edvald Boasson Hagen was stripped of victory in a controversial finish in Blyth. Boasson Hagen (Team Dimension Data), beaten in a photo finish on day one, finished first yesterday but was relegated for irregular sprinting. The Norwegian had put on the leader’s green jersey before the decision. Viviani (above) felt he had been impeded, the judges agreed and the Italian was given the win — and the green jersey.

BULGARIAN Kubrat Pulev has confirmed he will face British WBA and IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in Cardiff on October 28. The IBF’s mandatory challenger, with 25 wins in 26 bouts, was expected to be named after Wladimir Klitschko’s retirement scuppered Joshua’s hopes of a world title rematch with the Ukrainian.
