Follow-up
FURTHER to Don Townshend’s letter about the receptionist who’d never heard of Geno Washington (Peterborough), some years ago, I went to America on holiday and, while I was there, took the opportunity to buy a Gene Pitney album on cassette tape. I was, and still am, a fan of his music, and it was difficult to buy it here in the UK. On entering the music shop, I asked the young assistant if they had any tapes or records by Gene Pitney. She looked blankly at me and replied: ‘Gene Pitney? What did she sing?’ Mrs Ann Eaton, Portchester, Hants.
