The twin who’s still sending her sister birthday cards from beyond the grave

- By Claire Duffin

RACHEL Hoggins was distraught when her identical twin died from breast cancer aged only 36.

But her beloved sister Christine Addison is comforting her from beyond the grave by arranging for birthday cards to be sent each year.

A close friend has been given the greetings to deliver to Mrs Hoggins following her sister’s death in 2014 after a two-year battle with a rare and aggressive form of the disease which spread to her bones.

The 39-year- old, who has received three cards plus a memory book and handwritten letter, was told ‘there’s many more to come’ by the friend.

The married mother- of-three will receive cards up to her 50th birthday and loves reading her greetings despite dreading the day. ‘We always spent our birthdays together so it’s a day that’s

always full of tears, I just miss her so much,’ said Mrs Hoggins.

‘When she died in 2014, she wrote me a letter and gave me a card to help me get through it.

‘She also gave me a memory book half completed with instructions to fill it in whenever I thought of another memory. That’s the type of person she was. Christine just wanted to make sure we were all OK after she’d gone.

‘It has been so hard but I’m so lucky that she decided to write the birthday cards in advance.’

The gesture echoes the 2007 film PS I Love You in which a husband leaves his widow messages to ease her grief.

Mrs Hoggins, of Rugby, Warwickshire, said she and her sister, an accounts manager married to husband Ian, were inseparable growing up and best friends who did everything together.
