1,400 Lego workers axed as sales sink
LEGO is axing 1,400 jobs as part of a company-wide overhaul after posting its first drop in sales in over a decade.
The toymaker said the move will cut 8pc of its 18,200 workforce and the majority will go by the end of the year. It has around 900 staff in the UK.
Lego added that the cuts are part of a ‘reset’ of its business which has become ‘increasingly complex’ over the past five years and made it more difficult for the firm to grow.
Its announcement came alongside disappointing half-year results, during which the company revealed a 5pc drop in sales to £1.8bn after a doubledigit sales jump in China failed to offset declining sales in the US and Europe.
Profits dropped nearly 3pc to £545m.
