Evans: City bid not a distraction

- KIERAN GILL

AFTER spending deadline day on standby, West Brom’s Jonny Evans is determined to show Manchester City exactly what they missed out on. The centre back, who scored on Monday in Northern Ireland’s 2-0 win over the Czech Republic, could have been playing for City against Liverpool this Saturday. Instead he will face Brighton as, despite ongoing talks, no move to City materialised. ‘I don’t make the decisions,’ said Evans (right). ‘Man City first have to decide do they want you, and your own club have to decide to sell you. You’ve got to then make your own decision and it never got to that.’ Evans scored only his second goal in international football in 11 years and when asked if he is playing the best football of his career the defender said: ‘Probably. I still think I can push on. I’m pleased none of this speculation has affected me. It’s made me try to be a better player.’
