Tiny fruit and veg that’s big on flavour

-

JUST when you thought we’d reached peak avocado madness, along come Zilla eggs.

These miniature avocados are so-called because they have a dark and scaly appearance like the eggs of the fictitious reptilian monster Godzilla. Sold by the half dozen in an egg box (right), these dainty versions of the fashionable fruit are £2 for a carton of six ( tesco.com).

M&S is also branching out to offer Liliputian-sized fruit in a bid to tempt children. Bambinella pears, which are just 25-35mm wide, are ideal for the school lunch box brigade. They sell for £2.49 per 220g pack.

For the green-fingered, you can grow dwarf bell peppers (left), which are about half the size of normal bell peppers.

Unlike the chilli peppers of similar appearance, these are much sweeter and won’t blow your head off (£2.30 for 20 seeds, victoriana nursery.co.uk).
