KNACKERED MOTHERS’ WINE CLUB
BARGAIN OF THE WEEK
Trapiche Pure Malbec, £6.99 (normally £7.99), Co-op RIGHT, September’s here and I’m passing on the rosé and plumping for a big red. This, from Argentina’s Uco Valley, is all blackcurrants and black cherries. Juicy and soft, it’s best enjoyed from your sofa.
WHITE WINE
Tesco Finest Greco 2016, £9 TESCO has launched several new wines under its Finest banner, and this Italian white is already a firm fixture in my fridge door. It’s full of sunny, ripe orchard fruit, with a twist of virtual lemon peel.
FOOD PAIRING: Herby chicken.
RED WINE
Domaine de la Meynarde Plan de Dieu Côtes du Rhône Villages 2015, £10, Marks & Spencer THIS is like autumn in a glass, with gorgeous bramble fruit aromas, spice and an earthy (in a good way) whiff. It’s a classic Rhone blend with oomph. FOOD PAIRING: Sausage and mash.
ROSÉ WINE
Sacchetto Grifon Rosé, £10, Morrisons WHEN I said no more rosé, I didn’t mean sparkling. This is from the same region as Prosecco, but legally can’t be called Prosecco Rosé. Whatever, it’s fresh and delicately floral. Just pretend it’s warm out. FOOD PAIRING: Posh crisps.
