Asda axes 300 jobs
ASDA has axed nearly 300 jobs at its head office as the Walmartowned supermarket cuts costs.
The grocery giant informed around 288 staff yesterday, instructing all to leave their posts immediately.
A further 800 staff have had their job descriptions changed in the shake-up. The cuts account for more than a tenth of Asda’s 2,500 head office roles, and the majority being let go have been working in Leeds with the rest based in Leicester.
Asda is trying to arrest falling sales as the supermarket battles rivals in a price war that has eroded profits.
