ONE HUNDRED pupils were put in isolation on their first day back at one school for wearing ‘inappropriate’ uniform.
One of those affected was Elizabeth Jenkins, 14, who was taken out of lessons at George Stephenson High School, in Killingworth, Tyneside, because of her black pencil skirt, which stopped just above the knee.
Her mother Julie Haley, 42, said: ‘Apparently it was “inappropriate” but I don’t understand why. It’s of acceptable length and smart. Elizabeth was really upset.’
She added: ‘The children have just had a day of their education wasted.’
Headmaster Ian Wilkinson said the school decided to be stricter this year and that students and parents had been given warning of this in May.
