Council taxed
WHEN the dustmen regularly ‘missed’ my property, I decided to withhold my council tax.
Before I cancelled my direct debit, I wrote a polite letter to the council, informing them of my intention.
I received dire warnings in reply, even receiving a letter from the council chief, which I used to my advantage, informing him that at least he was aware of the problem. I was threatened with legal action, but I stuck to my guns. My rubbish is now collected every week.
Mrs J. M. DUNNING, Southampton. I DON’T want to rub it in, but in Tenerife, refuse is collected in the small hours every day except Sundays, Christmas Day and Twelfth Night. For this great service we pay €114 a year.
CHARLES FOREMAN, Los Cristianos, Tenerife. THE reader from Yorkshire who was impressed that the council in Eastleigh ‘collected everything each week in different coloured containers’ ( Letters) must have been holidaying with a councillor to enjoy this special treatment.
Our rubbish collection is fortnightly at best and you have to pay extra for a garden waste bin that is too small to be useful.
